Some words about Chelyabinsk…

For the visitors of our city we have prepared the small description of Chelyabinsk, being guided by which you can learn our city from a new side.

Chelyabinsk was found in 1736 by colonel Tevkelev as a small fortress at the lower course of the Miass river. The territory round it began to be occupied by the first inhabitants of Chelyabinsk very quickly. The prospective place of pioneer settlements considers being the small area around the Modern Opera and ballet Theatre of Glinka.

Today the city of Chelyabinsk represents one of the Russian million-plus cities (1100 thousand people). It is one of the largest industrial centres of the country with a total area about 550 square kilometres. Rapid growth of Chelyabinsk and its formation as an industrial city begun in the period of Great Patriotic War during which Chelyabinsk carried the legendary name "Tankograd".

Finally in 1958 Chelyabinsk became the administrative centre of the region.

Today Chelyabinsk is a large traffic centre in which the goods traffics of Asia and Europe meet. The Chelyabinsk railway station is one of the largest ones in our country. Also Chelyabinsk has a big airport, capable to accept both Russian, and foreign flights.

Such strategic enterprises as the Chelyabinsk pipe-rolling factory, the Chelyabinsk metallurgical industrial complex, the Chelyabinsk tractor factory and a set of others are located in Chelyabinsk, allowing the city to keep leading places in metallurgy and the heavy industry.

Modern Chelyabinsk does not aspire to look as an exclusively industrial city. There are also many vacation spots, entertainments and art places here. In Chelyabinsk you will have a wide choice of free pastime. For example, you can visit the well-known Chelyabinsk "Kirovka". The pedestrian zone of the Kirov Street is the city visiting card, its beautification can be compared to Moscow Arbat.

Such large cinemas and sinema-complexes as "Kinomaks", "Sinema-park" are located in Chelyabinsk. The Chelyabinsk theatres, such as Opera and ballet theatre, Drama theatre, “Maneken” theatre can be considered as the samples of classical performances and repertoire.

The sport and physical activities are strongly developed in Chelyabinsk. Ice-hockey teams "Tractor" and "Mechel" play in the city; the sports schools of Chelyabinsk can be proud of their graduates Vyacheslav Bykov, Danis Zaripov, Sergey Gonchar, Sergey Mylnikov, Dmitry Kalinin, Lydia Skoblikova, Elena Lesina, Ekaterina Gamova.

The most popular vacation spots among the inhabitants of Chelyabinsk are entertaining complexes "Megapolis", "Gorki", "Focus" where it is possible to make useful purchases and simply to have a good time. Besides, in Chelyabinsk you can find several popular trend night clubs «DJ Park Inside», "Hollywood", «Monopoly», «ХХХ» and many others, which receive the stars of the European and world parties.

The Chelyabinsk region is famous for the natural beauty. Numerous lakes are scattered in dense coniferous and deciduous woods, and the Ural Mountains give extraordinary beautiful landscapes to the visitors. The way of pastime can be chosen at your own discretion, medical-improving or tourist one. Such well-known lakes as Uvildy, Smolino, Zjuratkul and many others are located in the Chelyabinsk region, after all it reasonably has another name – «Edge of thousand lakes».
